6 Steps for Building a Better Vision

Board

Ready to take your business to the next level? Start by getting in touch with your inner kindergartner: Gather scissors, glue, paper, and a stack of magazines, and put together a vision board. This is a collage representing what you aim to achieve as an entrepreneur.

“A vision board can help you create the overall big vision for your business and connect with what it is you want to manifest,” says Jennifer Lee, author of The Right-Brain Business Plan: A Creative, Visual Map for Success.

Vision boards have grown in popularity in recent years, ever since Oprah began touting them. Some enthusiasts insist that all you need to do is create a board and then sit back and let it work its magic. However, vision board veterans recommend that you go through a specific process to turn your vision into reality.

Here are six steps for building a great vision board:

1. Clarify. Before you dive in, spend some time thinking about what you really want for your business. Do you want to expand? Solve a problem? Focus your efforts? Think beyond financial targets or sales goals. Try to picture exactly what your business will be like at its most successful. What kind of customers will you serve? What kinds of products or services will you sell? How will you spend your day? What will your space look like? (Need help? Download Lee’s free visualization guide in MP3 format.)

2. Go with your gut. As you collect images for your vision board, follow your intuition: If a photo in a magazine stirs something in you, cut it out. If you come across an image online that you love, print it out. If something in the real world catches your eye, take a snapshot with your smartphone or camera and print it out. Don’t worry if these images don’t seem directly related to your business. Just start collecting.

3. Don’t be literal. Don’t spend too much time searching for images that literally represent your goals. Say you’d like to earn more money. Don’t just look for a picture of a wad of cash; instead, look for images that demonstrate what “financial success” would mean for you or how your business would thrive financially. The idea is to open your eyes to possibilities you haven’t already considered.

4. Think “how” as well as “what.” Dr. Neil Farber, a physician and researcher who’s looked at psychology research relating to visualization tools, encourages business owners make “action boards” rather than vision boards. “Don’t just include the pictures of the outcome. Include the where, what, when, and why, and how this will occur,” he advises.  “Visualization coupled with an action plan will get you closer to your goals and dreams faster.”

Farber cites research in which athletes were more successful when they imagined themselves training rather than winning. “Visualizing the process and how you will actively participate is helpful,” he explains. “But there are several important studies that suggest that simply relying on visioning an outcome may result in less success.”

5. Sort, group, glue, and display. To assemble your collage, sort your images around themes, words, colors, or specific goals. (Discard any that no longer appeal to you.) Arrange the pictures on a sheet of paper to create an image you love, then glue them in place. Once completed, post your vision board in a place where you will see it regularly.

6. Get busy. Enjoy the vision board process, but don’t get too hung up on making a “perfect” vision board. A vision board will help you focus, but you still have to do the work! As Lee notes, a vision board is really just “a guidepost or a road map to keep on taking the steps forward to make it real.”

One of the first steps in the article was clarifying obviously this is the first step because it is an important essential into creating your visual board. Clarifying helps ensure that the message that the person is trying to get across is completely understanding. Clarifying also can be described as a communication method. The pinterest was gave an positive feedback far as quotes, sources, information, and creativity. I was able to use one of the sources of the pinterest site and write down information that I can share with my team for encouragement and idea(http://www.livethedreamchallenge.com/join/) one of the first ideas I got from the website was the importance of location dependency and making sure that you business will make money in that location. 8. What I learned from the video was so important from me. Adella McClay introduction to vision board was procise. she stated that making and displaying your vision was a form of positive energy and a form of putting your vision into the universe.I also learn that you can use vision boards for other parts of your life. like personal relationships and other goals you have. The business vision board web site showed good examples of how your vision can be displayed and the different ways you can go about it. You dont have to be so involved in your vision Board just put things on it that apeal to you. Finally the six step for building a better vision board had it good points too. First thing jump out at me was the question, they wherer symple but relevant. I also enjoyed the freedom of the whole process, just feel free and let your mind do its job. Be creative and express yourself.

  9. I learned various items from the article, video, and the pin site that I can use for my team’s vision board. First clarify our product, which are massages, manicures, pedicures and gift items for sale in our boutique. Apply pictures to our vision board that have ladies enjoying massages and having their nails done. Collect pictures of items with prices of each items to be sold in our boutique. Search through magazines for pictures of elegant spa settings and an up-to-date place to house our spa and boutique. Look for pictures of promotions such as coupons and saving passes. Also have posted on the vision board people relaxing and having a good time in a spa setting. I learned from the video to place the vision board in a place where I can view it morning and night. I learned a vision board keeps me connected and focused on my goals for our Tranquilty Spa and Boutique business.

  10. The video demonstrate how she designed her vision board. Listening to what she put into place for her board for her new business, she took into consideration the five p’s and have them linked together according to what they represent. In pinterest they used their creative juices to get their vision to be what they need it to be. You need to be clear on what your vision is. Of course you have to think about what kind of business it will be, what you want your outcome to be and many other aspect need to be considered. This is where the five p’s come in. So you need to collect pictures for you board relating to your business. You don’t have to spend a lot of time collecting images or pictures related to your outcome. You have to start somewhere with your pictures, so you need to just start collecting. Sort you images and pictures that you collected and envision your outcome. You need to try to think about what you want for your business. It’s not about making a perfect vision board, you have to think about your vision. Follow your own intuition, in the end this is what you dreamed for your business. Take into consideration the customer’s that you want to draw to your business. Your business location will determine what kind of customers that you will draw.

  11. What I learned from the video with Adell is that a vision board is a guide to where and what you want your business to become. The vision board is so you can see your dreams come to life. It provides a visual path of how to get from here to there. The board is a constance reminder of your vision for your business. According to the article a vision board can also be considered a “creative visual map for success”.The article comments on several ideas to consider when making a vision board, or as Dr. Neil Farber sujest an Action board. This will include not only the what and where you see your business but also the how, when and why this will come to life. The article also advises to consider not being too literal and to go with your gut. This is your business so trust yourself.when depicting the who, what, when, where and how of your board remember the five P’s of marketing. Finally remember that the board can continually grow as your vision expands for your business.
